Ruby and Claude, a working‑class couple in suburban Arkansas, love each other fiercely but their marriage is strained by poverty and long‑standing family tensions. When Claude’s uncle is arrested, relatives converge: Ruby’s mother Jewel and her flirtatious sister Rose, who is also Claude’s former girlfriend. Rather than offering support, Jewel appears determined to tear the couple apart.
