In 1969 Key West, a twelve‑year‑old boy watches his mother earn a living stripping at a topless bar. He learns of her work and tries unsuccessfully to persuade her to quit. A restaurant owner hires him to haul fish from a bay boat, where he discovers the fish conceal drugs. He steals a shipment and sells it, hoping the money will let his mother leave the strip club.
