China Jones

Daffy Duck, portraying China Jones, is an Irish private investigator working in Hong Kong. He begins his investigation after discovering a fortune cookie containing a call for help, hinting at a kidnapping in a Chinese bakery. This sets the stage for his quest to uncover the mystery and seek the promised reward.

Jones visits a bar run by Limey Louie, a friend of his, where he hopes to gather valuable information. There, he hears about hot tips from a solo musician but remains uncertain about where to start looking for clues among numerous bakeries. This highlights his need for reliable intelligence.

Jones leaves the bar and meets Charlie Chung, a caricature of Charlie Chan, whom Jones confuses for a fellow detective. When Chung raises a matter of money, Jones dismisses it, thinking he's trying to cut into his reward, demonstrating miscommunication between the characters.

Limey Louie, recently out of prison, sets a trap to take revenge on Jones, whom he blames for his incarceration. Disguised as his grieving wife, Louie roughs up Jones and falsely leads him to search for hot tips at fake locations, intending to mislead him.

Jones receives two false hot tips from Louie directing him to 'No. 10, Wong Way' and 'Ho Down Wharf, second sampan.' His investigations result in danger, with a fire-breathing 'Dragon Lady' torching his first lead and a sinking sampan at the second, symbolizing Louie’s malicious intent.

After escalating his inquiries, Jones faces Louie's declaration of vengeance. Louie reveals his grudge and intends to harm Jones, leading to a tense standoff. Jones attempts to escape, realizing he has been lured into a trap.

Jones tries to escape through a back door marked 'trap door' but accidentally triggers it, nearly falling into an alligator pit. Louie plays a sneaky game, forcing Jones into danger, showcasing Louie’s sinister plans for revenge.

Jones narrowly escapes via a back hatch and encounters Chung again. Desperate, he begs Chung to arrest Louie, but Chung claims he is just a laundryman, not a detective, and clarifies he was referring to paying his laundry bill, adding comic misunderstandings.

Jones sarcastically retorts to Chung with a joke about luck and pressing shirts. Chung then threatens him, emphasizing his role as a laundryman. This exchange highlights the humorous tension and confusion between the characters.

The final scene shows Jones being forced to work for Chung to settle his debt, humorously narrated as a plea for help in 'Chinese,' referencing the earlier fortune. This ending emphasizes the comedic and satirical tone of the story.
