The father of a poor family can’t find work because the local mill hires cheap child labor, so he sends his eldest daughter to work there. In New York, wealthy Hanscomb refuses to denounce child labor. When his daughter wanders off, a working family takes her in and she works in the mill. Hanscomb searches for her while expanding his empire.
