Shila, a fisherman's daughter near Lake Toba, yearns to attend a prestigious high school in Medan. Her mother, however, insists she enroll in a religious boarding school, creating conflict with her parents and straining their relationship. Adapting to the strict and regimented life at the pesantren proves challenging, leaving her feeling homesick and longing for her previous life. Despite these difficulties, Shila holds onto her dream of becoming a novelist and finds solace in the friendships she develops with Manda, Ayesha, and Icut, sharing both joyful and sorrowful moments within a unique "pot of tears".
