Pandelis, a garbage collector, anxiously awaits retirement and his overdue superannuation payout. His wife and mother‑in‑law also expect the money, each with different plans for its use. Normally docile, Pandelis finally stands up for himself. Philippides portrays him with warmth, giving hope to anyone facing middle‑age regrets and disappointment.
