A co‑worker confronts Mamoru about his apparent indifference, prompting Mamoru to quit his job in humiliation. Isolated and unemployed, he watches his bicycle gradually disassemble as parts vanish one by one. In irritation he leaves a plea for the thief, who replies only with a note signed “God,” deepening Mamoru’s confusion. When the last piece—a solitary bell—remains, an envelope arrives with addresses where each missing part might be reclaimed, offering a chance to piece his life back together.
