Nanninella works as a waitress to sustain her abusive father, who exploits her. She falls passionately for Tore, an upright and handsome young man, while his friend Carluccio plots to claim Nanninella for himself. Based on a popular Neapolitan song, ‘A Santanotte is the earliest surviving feature by pioneering director Elvira Notari, Italy’s first and most prolific female filmmaker.
