Detective DiBiasse, nearing the end of his career, revisits a disturbing crime scene at the mansion of wealthy recluse Alan Schaeffer. He introduces a new detective and recounts the bizarre story of Schaeffer, who claimed one of his creations intended to kill him, despite lacking any proof. Surrounded by seemingly oblivious security, Schaeffer was previously dismissed, but now a brutal crime has occurred with no apparent suspect, forcing DiBiasse to confront the unsettling possibility of Schaeffer's fears being realized.
