After serving in the Royal Air Force during World II, newspaper reporter Nat Hearn returns to his hometown and joins the local paper. When one of its owners dies, the partner and his son offer Nat the editorship if he provides the needed capital. Nat accepts, but his urge to pursue controversial stories soon irritates the town’s establishment.
