Kazuma, a shy but talented bowmaster, seeks to beat the record of enigmatic Hoshino Kanzaemon, rumored to have driven his father to suicide. He hides in an inn run by kind Okinu, avoiding conflict until locals learn his goal and an assassination attempt occurs. Samurai Karatsu Kanbei rescues him, offering training while hiding his own motives.
