After disappearing for eighteen months fighting in Syria, Jamal returns to Australia seeking to reconnect with his family. He hopes to see his terminally ill mother, but faces a complex situation involving his older brother Omar, his wife Heidi, their young son, and an unforgiving father. The film explores Jamal's motivations for returning and questions whether he is a militant or a pawn in a larger scheme, examining themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the impact of one's choices.
