Thirteen‑year‑old Rikke sees new girl Bea as a rival. After an endurance test—lying in a circle of flames—they become friends, but half‑truths break the bond. Rikke redirects the rivalry into artistic contests. Meanwhile, her older sister Ninni returns from England, having left an older lover, and Rikke confronts the pressures of approaching womanhood.
