After serving most of his term, Berlin journalist Greg Bachmann is freed early and meets driver Jupp. He learns celebrated reporter Cesar Boyd secured his early release. Boyd hires Greg as his assistant, swapping access to Greg’s war‑criminal interviews for help on various tasks. Boyd takes in Bettina, the daughter of a deceased friend, and becomes her guardian.
