Disillusioned with the drudgery of ordinary jobs, four friends decide that stealing can pay better than work. They enroll in the city’s first informal “crime school,” where they learn pickpocketing, safe‑cracking and other illicit tricks. The story follows their training, the formation of their crew, and the first heists they attempt, exposing both their naive optimism and the mounting dangers of their new lifestyle.
