A French television adaptation of Aeschylus’ earliest surviving tragedy, Πέρσαι (The Persians), was first broadcast on 31 October 1961. The drama depicts the aftermath of the Persian defeat at the Battle of Salamis in 480 BC, the only surviving Greek tragedy to dramatize an actual historical event. Produced as a TV movie, it shows the Persian chorus reflecting on loss and hubris while preserving the play’s solemn tone.
