Sir Peter Wright’s 1984 Royal Ballet production of The Nutcracker, in the company’s repertory, stays true to Hoffmann’s tale. It follows Drosselmeyer’s search for Clara, who can break the Mouse King’s curse on his nephew Hans‑Peter and restore him to human form. The sets recall Nuremberg and Christmas customs, with Act 2 featuring a marzipan kingdom.
