1959 Baltimore, 12‑year‑old Danny is called a coward because his father never fought in the war. When a radio tower set for demolition stands on a hill, Danny climbs it to prove himself. He is helped by Old Man Langer, a dying man who asks Danny to end his life. A drunk neighbor fires his rifle, prompting Danny’s father to intervene on a stormy night.
