Fifteen‑year‑old Mathieu, an agricultural high‑school student, joins a work‑study apprenticeship on Paul’s modest dairy farm on the Haut Doubs plateaus. He learns practical techniques, adapts to family life, strives to earn his place, and forms a deep bond with Paul, who steps in as the absent father figure, imparting lessons no classroom can offer.
