Anyburg, plagued by traffic, puts the automobile on trial. Testimony begins with a hit‑and‑run car, a hot‑rod for tire‑shredding, and a heap for safety lapses. Safety designers report rising accidents. Lawyer doesn't question witnesses, claiming drivers, not cars, are at fault. Jury rules car not guilty, and town drives politely—for a short time.
