The hero, a janitor played by Chaplin, is dismissed after he accidentally knocks a bucket of water out the window onto his boss, the chief banker (Tandy). At the same time, junior manager Dillon faces blackmail from his bookie over unpaid gambling debts and decides to steal from the firm, setting off a chain of comic misadventures.
