The New Swiss Family Robinson

Jack Robinson James Keach lands a new job in Australia and decides to sail a yacht from Hong Kong to Sydney with his wife Anna Jane Seymour and their children: Shane John Asher, Todd Blake Bashoff, and Elisabeth ‘Lizzy’ Robinson Jamie Renée Smith. Elisabeth begins keeping an online journal of their voyage, recording the scenery, the small triumphs of smooth sailing, and the growing anticipation of reaching a new shore.

Jack’s employer Sheldon Blake David Carradine gives him a gun for protection before the trip, a detail that casts a subtle tension over the departure. The early stretch is peaceful, and the family is enchanted by the sea’s beauty, even as Anna battles intense seasickness. The first signs of trouble appear when they are followed by a strange ship, and it soon becomes clear that Sheldon Blake leads a band of modern-day pirates who intend to use Jack and his family to smuggle a cache of money and jewels.

The pirates order the Robinsons to surrender the yacht and depart in the lifeboat, prompting a fierce gun battle that leaves the family scrambling to survive. A sudden storm then drives their vessel onto a reef, wrecking the yacht and marooning them on a deserted island. With limited supplies, they salvage what they can, improvise shelter, and begin to adapt to a life that tests their resilience and ingenuity.

On the island, Shane also discovers Francoise Yumi Iwama, a French-speaking Asian girl who has been living there since her own airplane crash and who survives in a semi-feral way alongside two orangutans. When the Robinsons are formally introduced to Francoise, she becomes part of their makeshift family, and Anna provides her with a shower and fresh clothes, helping her feel accepted after years of isolation. Francoise’s presence has a transformative effect on Shane, who starts to imagine a future that might include marriage to her.

The group grows closer, and they even adopt an orangutan, tending to its needs as part of their island routine. All the while, the threat of the pirates lingers in the background, culminating in one final showdown when the pirates return. Drawing on the survival skills they have learned, the Robinsons outsmart their pursuers and make a daring escape back to civilization, where they must reckon with the ordeal that bound their family so tightly together.
