In 1952 an Inuit hunter, Tivii, is sent from his home to a Quebec City sanatorium for tuberculosis. Isolated and unable to speak French, he becomes despondent, refuses food, wishes death. Nurse Carole brings Kaki, a sick orphan who speaks both languages. Sharing his culture with Kaki restores Tivii’s pride and hope, prompting him to adopt the boy.
