He is versed in every cheap trick, cheap joke, cheap shot and cheap dame, making him the ideal subject for a parody of 1940s pulp detectives. In this satirical San Francisco setting, private eye Lou Pekinpaugh is accused of murdering his partner, allegedly at the behest of his mistress—a woman who also happens to be the dead man’s wife. The film playfully skewers classic noir conventions.
