A cheerful young couple become engaged and quickly marry, but soon after the wedding the husband starts spending evenings carousing with his friends, leaving his wife alone with her mother. When the three attend the opera together, he notices one of his friends in a neighboring box, and the domestic tension soon reaches its breaking point.
