Following the Carlos Gardel formula of early Argentine talkies, ¡Tango! blends a melodramatic plot with a string of tango numbers, resembling a musical revue. The story, taken from typical tango lyrics, depicts a young man abandoned when his lover chooses a wealthy older suitor, leaving him to endure heartbreak and misfortune.
