In a remote Hong Kong village, a man executed for adultery is drowned, and his lover dies in quicksand while fleeing. Years later swimmers vanish and their bodies wash ashore. Taoist‑practicing policeman Lu Hsien attributes the deaths to a water ghost, presumed the drowned man, and teams with colleague Wang Hsiao‑Ming to stop it. Unbeknownst to them, the vengeful mistress, risen from her grave, seeks to claim Lu and destroy anyone who loves him.
