Detective Burt Simpson is misdiagnosed with only weeks to live, prompting him to reassess his marriage to Carolyn and bond with son Dougee. He learns the family’s insurance will only pay if he dies on duty, so he deliberately seeks dangerous assignments. Defying his by‑the‑book partner, he becomes the dept’s reckless cop in a race against time.
