Set in WWI London, a solitary woman fabricates a story that her son is serving at the front to feel involved in the war effort. Her ruse collapses when a soldier appears at her door, and they agree he will masquerade as her son. Presented as an early all‑talking picture, the tale blends comedy and pathos. The film adapts James M. Barrie’s play “The Old Lady Shows Her Medals.”
