After being ambushed, mutilated and left for dead while on a clan mission, the loyal samurai Samanosuke survives but loses an eye and an arm. Assuming the alias Tange Sazen, he embarks on a quest to retrieve a stolen urn of great hidden value to his clan, while his own mysterious motives drive his pursuit and he confronts those who betrayed him.
