Two Japanese animated adaptations of Osamu Dazai’s 1940 short story “Hashire Melos.” The first, directed by Tomoharu Katsumata, aired on Japanese TV on 7 Feb 1981 (runtime reported as 68–87 min) and did not include an exclamation mark in the title. The second, a 107‑minute colour remake titled “Hashire Melos!” premiered on 25 Jul 1992, directed and scripted by Masaaki Osumi, with music by Kazumasa Oda, character art by Hiroyuki Okiura and Satoshi Kon, background art by Hiroshi Ohno, and produced by Toei Company Ltd.
