An eager bassist arrives early at a princess’s betrothal ball and passes the waiting time by taking a swim in the river. Unaware, the princess does the same. When thieves strip them of clothing, the bassist safeguards her modesty by ferrying her back to the castle inside his double‑bass case. During the journey they realize they have fallen in love. The story is adapted from Anton Chekhov’s short tale.
