In the 4th‑century B.C., a pagan shaman foretells that Olympias, queen of Macedonia and wife of Philip II, will bear a son destined to bring about the world's ruin—Alexander. Years later, Alexander’s sweeping conquests unite Persia and Macedonia, prompting Aristotle to fear that his relentless eastward march could indeed spell catastrophe.
