Hans, living in Vienna during the Great Depression, plans to end his life by drowning in the river after losing his livelihood. As he prepares, he spots a woman struggling and pulls Anna from the water, saving her. Their unexpected encounter forces him to reconsider his despair and suggests a possible new beginning.
