Raining Cats and Frogs

Ferdinand and Juliette live with their adoptive grandson Tom on a hilltop farm. They agree to care for Lili while her parents travel to Africa. The setup establishes the core family and the responsibilities that bind them together.

Frogs inform Tom and Lili that the Earth will be flooded for forty days and nights. At first they hesitate to share the news, but eventually they decide to warn the humans. The warning foreshadows the disaster to come.

The flood arrives and seems to wipe away all life. The animals flee to the barn perched on a hill as its foundations break away and it floats on a giant tractor tire. Ferdinand, a capable sailor, takes command as captain to keep everyone alive.

After the rain ends, the animals grow hungry. Ferdinand reveals 28 tons of potatoes and makes French fries to feed the group, persuading the carnivores to share for the common good. The resource becomes a source of tension but also a unifying bond.

A tortoise arrives with a missing leg from a crocodile attack. Lili befriends the tortoise while Tom notices that she has kept her distance since the incident. The tortoise shares his backstory, hinting at danger to come.

Ferdinand speaks of his past as a sailor and his father, the boat machinist. He modifies an old tractor engine to function as oars, effectively motorizing the barn. The modification strengthens his leadership and helps steer the herd through danger.

The tortoise's tale convinces Lili that her parents are gone, and Ferdinand and Juliette decide to adopt her as their own. This solidifies the new family unit aboard the floating refuge. The bond raises the stakes for everyone aboard.

The carnivores resent eating potatoes and begin to mutiny. The lion urges keeping the captain's law, but hunger prevails as they attack a sheep. Ferdinand banishes them to a floating bathtub behind the barn to restore order.

That night the carnivores suspect the tortoise is colluding with the crocodiles to feed the barn. The tortoise hints that remaining close to Lili while she stays with Tom could require turning away, suggesting betrayal. The group grows nervous as danger mounts.

The tortoise convinces many carnivores to prey on the humans, but a cat helps the children escape as they climb the giraffe's neck to safety. The others prepare for a confrontation as crocodiles circle the barn. The tension reaches a breaking point.

The tortoise signals the crocodiles to attack, the cat frees the children, and they restart the tractor engine to flee. The eggs hatch into little crocodiles, exposing the tortoise's deception. Ferdinand arrives at the last moment to stop the violence and resume command.

The elephants crush the tortoise's carapace, revealing that the tortoise is male and not the crocodile egg-keeper he claimed to be. The crocodiles, duped, retreat, and the tortoise is left caparaceless among the angry crowd. The truth undermines the conspiracy, and order begins to return.

A few days pass and kittens are born aboard the barn, bringing fresh hope to the community. The surviving animals share the new life as the fear subsides. The family continues to rebuild their life on the floating refuge.

The flood recedes and dry land emerges, with other boats seen on distant mountains indicating other survivors. Lili's parents arrive in a car and explain that the flood did not occur in Africa, bringing relief and a sense of closure. The group celebrates their resilience and looks toward a future.
