An orphan from birth, she grows up as a carefree, happy‑go‑lucky girl living with her father, the village vicar. When her father suddenly dies, she is sent to stay with a stern aunt she has never met. Though initially hostile, the girl’s optimism slowly breaks down the aunt’s resistance, and a deep, supportive bond forms between them and finds hope.
