After a storm capsizes his ship, the cantankerous Captain Eksteroog washes ashore on an uninhabited island. To pass the time he hunts for the treasure his rival Zilvertand buried there. He soon finds Reus, a two‑metre giant, five children and their dog Smikkel also stranded. Eksteroog and Reus capture Smikkel and force the children to search for the loot. Meanwhile Piet, Berend, Stien and Steven stumble onto the same island, locate the kids and decide to help. As they close in on the treasure, they must outwit the grumpy captain who refuses to let anyone leave.
