Set in the mid‑1990s while capital punishment is still legal, the film follows Kostya, a newly hired executioner in a special‑purpose prison. Though his duty is to carry out death sentences, he holds an unconventional view of justice. After confronting the grieving father of a victim, Kostya realizes that those closest to the crime often feel entitled to deliver punishment, and he discovers the lucrative, morally ambiguous world of paid retribution, illustrated by a mother offering a fortune to have her daughter’s rapist killed.
