A small‑town basketball prodigy, Henry Steele earns a scholarship to a major city university, only to discover he lacks basic academic skills and can’t read. Overwhelmed by the commercial pressures of college sports and a demanding coach, his future falters until graduate student Janet Hays becomes his tutor, helping him catch up and stand up to the coach’s attempt to cancel his scholarship.
