Not of This Earth

A man who is not of this Earth has adopted the name Mr. Johnson to move among Los Angeles' streets. He has been sent from the planet Davanna to study human blood for a potential cure for his dying race. He communicates with Davanna authorities through a hidden device behind a sliding panel in his Griffith Park mansion and wears sunglasses that conceal his blank eyes.

Johnson drains blood from his first victim, a teenage girl walking home from a date, using tubes and canisters stored in an aluminum attaché case. The process is methodical and clinical, reflecting his alien physiology. His distinctive sunglasses and cold, calculated manner mark the start of a brutal campaign to harvest blood.

Johnson's bodyguard Jeremy protects him but remains completely unaware of his employer's true nature. His loyalty blinds him to the danger, creating a tense dynamic as events escalate. The bond foreshadows the peril that will come when the truth finally surfaces.

Johnson hires Nadine to look after him in his house. She becomes entangled in the strange routine and begins to suspect nothing at first. The arrangement allows the alien to operate unabated, masking his crimes.

Town physician Dr. Rochelle discovers something unusual about the patient's blood cell structure. Johnson uses hypnotic control to subdue Rochelle, placing her under his influence. The physician's discovery becomes a dangerous gateway that enables the alien to manipulate others.

With a transfusion limit in place, Johnson turns to murder to obtain more blood. He targets a wider circle of locals, including a strolling Chinese-American man, a sleazy vacuum-cleaner salesman, and several homeless drunks. The killings deepen the mystery for the police and heighten the sense of danger in the city.

A Davanna woman arrives and demands an immediate transfusion, but Johnson's plan unravels when he inadvertently steals blood contaminated with rabies. The contaminated transfusion proves fatal to the Davanna woman, who collapses on the street and dies at a hospital.

Patrolman Harry Sherbourne, Nadine's friend, tries to question Dr. Rochelle about the dead Davanna woman, but Johnson's mind control prevents him from speaking. The police circle tightens as the investigation stalls. Nadine grows more entangled in the danger surrounding Johnson.

Johnson deploys a bizarre oxygen-activated umbrella-like flying creature to kill Dr. Rochelle. The attack deepens the sense of menace and demonstrates the alien's willingness to weaponize strange devices. Nadine's fear grows as the net tightens around Johnson.

Jeremy uncovers evidence of Johnson's alien origin, making him a danger to the secret. Johnson eliminates him to prevent exposure. Nadine witnesses the fallout and realizes the threat is far more personal than she imagined.

Nadine makes a desperate bid to escape with Johnson and calls the police for help. Johnson chases her through the park in his car, forcing a tense pursuit under the night sky. The pursuit intensifies the sense of impending capture.

Sherbourne arrives on a motorcycle and turns on his siren, triggering Johnson's loss of control of his car. The car crashes, and Johnson dies, bringing immediate danger to an end. The city is left to process the revelation of an alien among them and the cost of pursuit.

After Johnson's burial, Sherbourne and Nadine stand by his grave, reading the inscription 'Here lies a man who was not of this Earth'. Nadine withholds pity, reflecting on his attempted rescue of a dying world. A mysterious man wearing sunglasses and carrying the same transfusion case approaches the grave, suggesting the threat may not be over.
