In Geneva, seasoned bookseller and publisher Axel Thorpe catches the willful, wealthy 16‑year‑old Sibylle Ashby shoplifting. Intrigued by her brag about writing, he challenges her to produce a manuscript. Sibylle writes an erotic novel that Thorpe publishes anonymously, and it quickly becomes a bestseller. Though she hopes to win the affection of the 40‑year‑old publisher, he ultimately turns his attention to her older sister, leaving her to cope with sudden fame and unrequited love.
