Irene Bullock, a Fifth‑Avenue socialite, needs a “forgotten man” to win a scavenger‑hunt and hires Godfrey Park, a down‑on‑his‑luck drifter living by the East River, as the family’s butler. Her spoiled sister Cornelia schemes to fire him, but as Irene falls for Godfrey, he outsmarts the Bullocks and teaches the frivolous household a lesson in humility.
