All of America is eager to meet the modern “Mr. Deeds.” After being fired, reporter Ann Mitchell fabricates a desperate letter from an unemployed “John Doe” who threatens suicide to protest social injustices. The paper rehired Ann and hired John Willoughby to pose as Doe. Ann and her editors milk the hoax for profit, yet the invented “John Doe” philosophy sparks a political movement.
