A young Catholic girl guides the viewer through Spain’s changing landscape, starting with her confirmation. Her Jewish godfathers miss the ceremony; one gives her a ring that threatens her innocence and later returns, indirectly introducing a new boyfriend. As she matures, she has several lovers, supports her decadent father financially, and embodies the clash between old traditions and a modernizing Spain.
