Set in Kyoto during the turbulent final days of the Edo Period, the story follows Tajuro Kiyokawa, a disgraced samurai struggling to survive. Once a skilled swordsman with grand ambitions, he now ekes out a meager existence while avoiding his past. Next door, Toyo runs a tavern, and develops feelings for Tajuro, appreciating his protection from troublesome patrons. Amidst a backdrop of conflict between feudal lords and the Tokugawa Shogunate's forces, Tajuro's past threatens to resurface, complicating his relationship with Toyo and forcing him to confront his former self.
