Just before Christmas, Charlotte Ekeblad receives an offer she can’t refuse: a post as Minister for the Environment in the Swedish Parliament. The prime minister appears modern and open‑minded, appointing a young woman to his team, yet the role carries limited power. Charlotte is torn between her ambitions and her family life, while her husband struggles with becoming the second partner in the household. As she confronts the entrenched male dominance of government, pressure mounts and her marriage begins to crack, forcing her to weigh whether the cost of effecting change is worth the personal sacrifice.
