Vienna, the hard‑nosed owner of a frontier saloon, rules the outpost with a mix of gunslingers and troublemakers, including Dancin’ Kid’s gang. Her lover Johnny Guitar, a former gunslinger, is a regular patron. After a robbery leaves a man dead, rival Emma Small rallies the townspeople to exact revenge on Vienna’s establishment, despite lacking any proof.
