Kati, an 18‑year‑old who has just finished school, leaves her small provincial town in northwestern Germany for Hamburg, seeking independence. Though she knows she loves women, she has never been able to live openly. In Hamburg she quickly finds a lover, a supportive friend, and the courage to confront the narrow‑minded attitudes of her hometown. After months of struggle she returns to tell her mother and best friend about her new life.
