A dying woman's last wish sends her son on a train across the Uzbek steppes into the Russian hinterland, seeking his father's grave. As Samarkand, his hometown, straddles the line between East and West, director Khamraev sets the story at the crossroads of two cultures, capturing the spirit of Russia and the fading splendor of the ancient Silk Road.
