Lyudmila, a medical school graduate on Leningrad’s reserve‑distribution committee who wants to stay in the city, enters a marriage of convenience with Alex, a bridge‑designing engineer. When Alex is assigned to oversee a major bridge project in Siberia, he insists that Lyudmila accompany him, thrusting the couple into a new, challenging chapter.
